The most common problems and how to fix them.
macOS
macOS says Larakey “can’t be opened” or “is damaged”
Larakey isn’t code-signed, so macOS quarantines it. Open Terminal, run this, then open Larakey again:
xattr -cr /Applications/Larakey.appOr go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
I don’t hear anything
Larakey needs Accessibility access to hear your keyboard and mouse outside its own window. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and switch Larakey on. Sounds start within a few seconds. Also check that Keyboard Sounds is ticked in the Larakey menu and that you haven’t muted it with Cmd+Shift+K.
The sounds stopped after I updated Larakey
macOS can forget the Accessibility permission for unsigned apps after an update. In System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, select Larakey, remove it with the − button, then add it again with the + button.
I can’t find the Larakey icon
Larakey lives in the menu bar at the top right of your screen, not in the Dock. If you have many menu bar icons, the notch or other icons may be hiding it. Hold Cmd and drag other icons out of the way, or quit a few menu bar apps.
How do I update on macOS?
Automatic updates need a signed app, so download each new version and replace the app in Applications. Your settings are kept.
Windows
Windows says “Windows protected your PC”
That’s SmartScreen warning about an unsigned installer. Click More info, then Run anyway.
Where is Larakey after I install it?
It runs in the system tray, at the bottom right of the taskbar. If you don’t see it, click the ^ arrow to show hidden icons.
How do I update on Windows?
Larakey checks for updates by itself and installs them when you quit.
